Think back on the last 15 years of your life until this very moment. I wonder how you feel about your life’s journey. Did things turn out the way you thought they would or do you find yourself in an absolutely unexpected place in your life? Whatever your answer is to that question, it’s important to reflect on your life’s journey. Why? Doing so helps you become aware of your own experience of life.

How are you experiencing your life now? Are you genuinely happy or are you just living your life passively? If you’re genuinely happy, congratulations! Being happy does not happen by chance. It involves a lot hard work in the background. But if you find yourself living your life passively, don’t worry. There are some things you can do to change that.

Your life’s journey is really about becoming who you want and who you are meant to be. It’s a long journey of discovering yourself and meeting challenges that come your way. Sound difficult? Of course it is. Not everyone is willing to take this journey. But if you want to experience a joyful and meaningful life, it’s time to get ready for this incredible journey.

So, how do you get started? Here’s a simple guide to get you moving.

Decide on what you truly want

Many people don’t get moving because there is nothing that pulls them forward, no compelling dream or vision that motivates them. I was once in such a place. But if you don’t start building this picture, you won’t get moving. You don’t need to make a perfect decision. Reflect on your past experiences: What have you learned about yourself? Engage with your heart. In which direction do you want to go?

Expect to encounter challenges along the way

The journey is not easy. The reason it’s not easy is that you’ll need to grow to become who you want and are meant to be. Challenges are the catalyst to your personal growth. Prepare for these challenges. What new skillset do you need to develop so that you can engage with the unknown? Who are the members of your support team? How will you manage when things become difficult?

Be present during the journey

Once you have a vision of where you want go and are experiencing challenges along the way, you’re going to look for that magic wand that can help you leapfrog to your destination. The good/bad news is: it doesn’t exist. You’re going to have to take the journey step by step. Although you are the one making the decisions and taking action, there are some things you can’t control. Learn to be okay with that. Appreciate the waiting periods in your journey and just focus on the next step as they reveal themselves.

Know that embarking on your life’s journey is one of the most difficult things you can do, but also one of the most rewarding. When you feel aligned with who you are and what you do, you will have a great experience. Who doesn’t want that?
